Hi guys, being the perfectionist I am, i decided to update my perfectly working 10.5.5 Medion Akoya to the 10.5.6 update, everything is working as normal except I can't for the life of me get the Quartz Extreme support back. I have tried for almost 2 days now every single combination of GMA950 drivers I have been able to find on the internet between msiwind[dot)net, modaco, and insanelymac with no luck at all. I manage to get the 1024x600 almost every time now with the new drivers so no problems with the resolution, but none have been able to get the Quartz Extreme working like it was on 10.5.5.
Maybe we can start a thread here on solving it? Maybe someone with a bit more Mac experience and display driver info could help. So far I have tried several things including mixing and matching kexts from different packages, repairing disk permissions and clearing all caches before reboot manually from terminal, nothing has worked at all. Hopefully we can find something to get this sorted so we can upgrade to 10.5.6! EDIT: I think I might have just enough patience left to wait for another 2 fresh installs from kalyway 10.5.2 and upgrade to 10.5.5, this takes about 4-5 hours it seems. My question is this, if I get it fully working in 10.5.5 as it was, and backup the display related kexts (AppleIntelIntegratedFrameBuffer.kext, AppleIntelGMA950.kext, LaptopDisplay.kext, ClamShellDisplay.kext?) also copy the com.apple.boot.plist which may (didn't check) contain the EFI string, then upgrade to 10.5.6 and reinstall the kexts with kext helper, what are the chances of getting the Quartz Extreme working? Does anybody know exactly which kexts it is related to? I'm just doing a fresh install to full working 10.5.5 (hopefully, as it was before) but will risk another upgrade if someone can give me some information that might justify another upgrade attempt.
