Noticed this new Bios on Thetechguys site yesterday. Can't make it run though - the 'flash' file seems to be corrupt. Anyone else managed to get it up and running? Is there any real benefit to it?

Paul.

Looks like they have removed it from their website. But when it was on there, I downloaded, installed and it worked for me.

I have now since gone with the MSI Wind's version of the BIOS v1.09 which allowed me to overclock the CPU - works great.

If you're still using the XP that came with it, you will need to reactivate it as XP sees it as new hardware. But after it, no issue at all.

You recommend the MSI bois version then Tony?

I've just got a refurbished 4211 from Dixons online (great price, shocking CS) and I think its running 1.04 bios. i had major problems with the first one they sent and it took 3 weeks for them to replace it. I'm a little reluctant to start effing about with it (cuz it works), but the 1.09 is worth the stress of an upgrade is it?

If you want to have the most out of the CPU, then yeah I'd recommend the MSI Wind's BIOS. Have been using it for a few weeks at 24% overclock with no issue.

No problems with the other peripherals - wifi / BT stack etc?

Once its installed, how does the overclocking actually take place?

Yep, WiFi, Bluetooth, webcam etc still works great.

You will need to upgrade to the latest version of the System Control Manager (SCM) which you can download from MSI:

http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=do...mp;prod_no=1474

Once installed, upgrade the BIOS to MSI Wind v1.09.

Then boot to BIOS and change the % of the overclock. You get three choices which are 8%, 15% and 24%. Start with 8% and boot to XP. Press FN + F10 keys and you will get the "Turbo ON" logo coming up.

See how it behaves. Bump it up to 15% and then finally 24%.

One thing to be aware of is this overclocking only works when there is a power plugged in to the netbook. When the Turbo mode is enabled, the power button turns into orange. Blue is for normal speed and green is Eco Mode (power saving).
