Hello i just purchased the asus eee and i just want to ask soe basic questions.

A)I want to install another os as primary (xp,server 2k3) but i want to backup xandros for later use.I've seen guides for os installation but i havent found a way to backup the current state of disk.

B)How can you upgrade ram,and which ones are currently supported?

C)For xandros can you run wine,or is there any native cad application?

These are my basic questions so far and i would really appreciate it if you could provide me with some answers.Thanx you.

a) You need some disk partition imaging software. Such as Ghost or Partition Magic. Then you can take a complete image of the PC as out of the box. HOWEVER I wouldn't bother if you haven't customised Xandros, since you can use the CD that comes with it, to perform a complete factory reinstall.

cool.gif Depends on the model of the EEE PC. I bought a two gig stick of RAM for mine.

c) Not sure of Wine for Xandros, I think you can run it. I wouldnt like to run CAD on one though, unless using an external monitor.

A)Oh i wasnt aware that you could install via the cd,so then i neednt bother with imaging software. So everything can go back to the way it was when purchased,if so then this problem is solved.

B)What do you mean by "model"?I have the surf 701 4gb ssd white. How can i know the ram supported and where can i find a tutorial for doing the upgrade.I would like to upgrade to 2gbs of ram.

C)Well i dont really need cad for professional work on the eee.But i would like to have one installed, just in case i would like to make some quick review of a drawing file when I'm not at home.

D)Also can i download stuff for the eee from my windows computer and place them on my usb drive and install on eee from there?Cause i dont have wireless internet neither any spare etherenet cables, and i cannot connect to the internet from within the eee.

Thank you.

A) yup restore from CD smile.gif

cool.gif Surf 701. Thats what I was after. Im not sure if you can upgrade the surf version. Is there a panel on the underside of the device which reveals the ram when opened?

C) Im sure a cad package would work on the EEE, but I just wouldnt like to use it long term!

D) The Surf has a SD card slot, 3 x USB2 slots which can accept storage media. it also has integrated wireless for any hotspot you happen upon.

http://forum.eeeuser.com/ is a good source of info to search. Ive used it a few times to get info on the EEE PC.
